Hi! My name is Tara Perrot and I live in Martin’s River, Nova Scotia. I started Fit Brain a number of years ago with the eventual goal of somehow helping people deal with stress. I have spent over 30 years studying stress as part of an academic career (https://www.scientia.global/professor-tara-perrot-how-the-early-environment-influences-stress-responses-in-adulthood) and I’ve experienced much stress along the way.

Practising yoga and interacting with nature are two things that I find personally to be calming. Gently moving your body into different poses and holding those poses while paying attention to your breathing is a powerful way to calm the rattling of the mind. I became a certified yoga teacher in 2018 so that I could hold yoga classes and pass on the stress-reducing effects of yoga. Interacting with nature has always been an important part of my life and has taken different forms over the years. Gardening has been part of that for the last 30 years or so. There is something so rewarding about tending and nurturing plants, whether vegetables or flowers - they give back in abundance! In 2023 I completed the Master Gardener certificate through Dalhousie. While I don’t feel a ‘master’ of anything related to gardening, I am passionate about continuing to learn and passing on what I learn. I am entering the next adventure with the purchase of a large greenhouse where I will hold classes to help others with the benefits and how-to of gardening.
